Pick your Fiction (or really, have it picked for you)

My friend who works at the Seattle Public Library likes to affectionately refer to the library as "government gone good". And just recently she let me know about a cool new service where they create book reccomendations tailored to you as an individual.

Be a Poll Worker

Seeing as we're moving in the direction of all-mail voting, your chance to fufill any life-long dreams of spending election day helping voters at a polling location are quickly evaporating. Jump on it!

As of earlier this week, King County elections are still in need of about 500 people to help staff the polls for the August 21 primary election. That could be you!

And - for those who could use a little extra moviation, it's a paid position - $122.92 for the day.

School Governance

It's summer break; students have ditched the classroom for the mall, the beach, etc. Not knowing that while they are enjoying their well deserved break after 9 months of tests and study halls the wheels of school governance keep turning. Recently, I was sent an article from the Wall Street Journal by a colleague of a board I sit on. The article dealt with the education bureaucracy and how it hinders people with outside experiences making an impact in our schools. It is a worthwhile read and it should help you begin to think about what should be done to improve our schools.

After you're done thinking go outside and Barbeque it's going to be hot today!
